Kelsey has been an avid lifter and fitness nut for nearly 10 years after falling in love with the gym in 2015. Kelsey is also a competitive powerlifter and powerlifting coach who is passionate about helping athletes of all ages realize their potential to gain strength with appropriate guidance, both mental and physical. Whether you are brand new to the gym or a seasoned lifter, Kelsey will allow you to feel comfortable in the gym while seeing progress and enjoying the process. 

Strength means more than deadlifting your bodyweight for reps or squatting your bodyweight. Being strong means being independent, keeping up with your children or grandchildren, taking in all of your groceries in one load, or making it to the top of the stairs without gasping for air. Strength is vital to living a long, healthy, and happy life, and a significant amount of research backs the importance of resistance training for longevity. The Mackie Strong Camp provides technical skill development and utilizes progressive overload to develop and progress each individuals’ strength and confidence.

The three main compound lifts that will be taught in this class are the squat, bench press, and deadlift. During the initial phase of the class (and based on each individuals’ skill set), all lifts are safely modified, allowing each member of the class to develop proper movement patterns. As technique and skills develop, and at the discretion of the class coach, you will be advanced into barbell exercises with appropriate guidance and support.

Following the main compound lifts (squat, bench, and deadlift), you will perform a wide variety of “accessory” or “assistance” exercises in a higher-intensity circuit fashion (note: high-intensity is relative to YOUR abilities). For example, after squats, you may perform lunges or a modified version of a lunge. All accessory exercises can be modified to best suit your abilities, and a wide variety of these accessories will be introduced over the course of the 12-week class.

The Mackie Strong Camp is designed to be educational and provide results - by the end of the camp, you will see increases in strength and will have the confidence in your abilities to lift and exercise. You will be amazed at your abilities to progress throughout each workout while also noticing everyday tasks becoming easier to manage with confidence.

This class includes the following (+ more) throughout the 12 weeks:

  • Initial ‘testing’ period: baseline measures of your strength
  • Skill acquisition + developmental weeks
  • Progressive overload: getting you stronger through expert strength programming
  • End-of-class ‘testing’ period: a repeat of the initial strength measures (to see how far you’ve come!)
  • A FUN, SUPPORTIVE, + CHALLENGING opportunity!
