Being strong extends beyond squatting your body weight for reps or lifting a 225lb bar off the ground. Being strong means being independent, keeping up with your children or grandchildren, taking in all of your groceries in one load or making it to the top of your stairs without gasping for air! Strength is vital to living a long, healthy and happy life; this is backed by solid research. The Mackie Strong Strength Camp provides technical skill development, then utilizes progressive overload to develop and progress one’s strength.

The three main compound lifts that will be taught are the squat, bench and deadlift, in addition to many other assistance exercises. In the initial phase of the class, and based on each individual’s skill sets, lifts are safely modified using dumbbells or kettlebells, to allow for proper movement patterns to be established. As technique and movement patterns improve and your skills develop, you will be advanced to barbell work, at the discretion of the strength coach, Kessa Scriver.

Following the main compound lift, you will perform a variety of “assistance exercises” in a high-intensity circuit fashion (note: high-intensity is relative to YOUR abilities); for example, after squats you may perform lunges. Assistance exercises can be modified or changed to best suit your goals and intentions with weight lifting (ex: building muscle mass in certain areas, developing explosiveness or improving muscular imbalances).

This camp is designed to be educational and provide results! By the end of the camp you will see increased strength and have confidence in your abilities to lift. You will be quite amazed at your abilities and progression in each workout, while also slowly noticing your everyday tasks becoming easier to manage!
