Pelvic floor physiotherapy involves the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction. The pelvic floor consists of muscles, ligaments, and tissue, which together make up the floor of the pelvis or core. When muscles and other structures lose their normal control and do not function properly, this is called dysfunction. The pelvic floor has many functions including: Stability, breathing, posture, control of bowel and bladder, sexual, and support of pelvic organs (bladder small intestine, rectum, uterus and vagina in women).
