Kelsey has been an avid lifter and fitness nut for nearly 10 years after falling in love with the gym in 2015. Kelsey is also a competitive powerlifter and powerlifting coach who is passionate about helping athletes of all ages realize their potential to gain strength with appropriate guidance, both mental and physical. Whether you are brand new to the gym or a seasoned lifter, Kelsey will allow you to feel comfortable in the gym while seeing progress and enjoying the process. 


Mackie’s newest class, led by personal trainer, powerlifter, and group class instructor Kelsey Gudmundson, is designed to get you moving and feeling better both in and out of the gym. Whether you train hard in the gym, sit for hours on end at work, are dealing with movement restrictions related to injury, or all of the above, proper joint/muscle mobility is key to moving around the world and the gym while performing tasks comfortably and with confidence.

So what is mobility? Many initially assume that mobility is the same as flexibility: for example, can you get into a certain position? With mobility, however, we also want to ask: can you function and perform with strength and stability in a certain position? Flexibility can be a part of the equation, but mobility goes beyond simply being able to lengthen your muscles. Additionally, as you age, you may lose the ability to perform certain tasks due to joint and muscle stiffness. This class is your doorway into moving better and improving the aging process.

Members of this class can expect to improve their mobility in key areas of function, mainly including the ankles, hips, spine, and shoulders. For example:
  • Can you comfortably squat down to a reasonable depth while maintaining control and balance with feet staying flat on the ground, spine in an appropriate position, etc?
  • Can you comfortably get into an overhead reach position, grab something, and raise/lower it?
  • Can you perform a deadlift or pick something up from the ground while maintaining an appropriate position throughout the entire movement?

Please note that this class will not be a gentle stretching class - prepare for some discomfort along the way. Discomfort is often part of any type of self-improvement, and this class is certainly no exception. Class will include (but is not limited to):
  • Direct targeting of tight tissues using foam rollers, lacrosse balls, etc.
  • Long-hold stretches
  • Strengthening exercises to get you stronger in your end ranges of motion (e.g. at the bottom of your squat or at the top of an overhead press/reach)
  • Individualized/modified versions of everything depending on YOUR current abilities
  • Pre- and post-class testing: how do you move in September vs. after 10 weeks of class?
  • A supportive, fun, engaging environment!
