All In: A Three Part Series

Instructor: Blaine Mackie, B.Sc.Bio., B.Sc.PT., Dip. Manip.Pt., F.C.A.M.T., CFT II, Raw Powerlifter

“All In” is a course series in manual therapy treatment and strength training that is vital in creating technically-superior manual physiotherapy practitioners who have a philosophy of treating patients solely under the philosophies of:
  • manual therapy techniques,
  • mobility models,
  • neurofascial flexibility techniques,
  • and basic to advanced strength training techniques.

This specialized series is clinic specific. If your clinic requires practitioner development geared toward advanced treatment skill level in a three series course design, this “All In” course is your best step. If you have a group of new grads (that require quick development), or senior therapists (that need refueling), consider the “All In” course.

The course series is designed by time spent collecting skills the host clinic needs improving or refreshing. It is designed to be specific to the practitioners at the host clinic. I spend time developing a plan in conjunction with the host clinic’s owner/manager/team as to the regions of difficulty, desires for development, or weaknesses that require improvement.  Topics range from assessment and manual therapy treatment, to mobility and strength development.

The course series is custom designed for the clinic, yet has a degree of structure to ensure comprehensiveness. The key to this course is that it is almost entirely practical, guaranteed.

Each series is run to minimize time loss from clinical revenue generation. I come in Friday afternoon, teach Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday and leave Sunday evening. The basis for the three series is manual therapy (which can be an 8 day course), Neurofascial flexibility (two day course), and strength training (from basic to advanced, which can be 4 days).

Series I: Starts with the goals, desires and requirements for your clinic development, then adds in the requests from your staff for techniques and strategies where there is struggle or challenge. This is developed between myself and the clinic owner/manager via email – essentially a custom-designed format. Including a looser structure from my biases to ensure we get to each region of the body over the three series.
Technique practice is essential in getting comfortable with handling skills and achieving the biomechanical outcomes that you desire, and I require from my students and employees. Practicing techniques is a must, but most courses fail to allow for this due to significant didactic lecturing. I want each practitioner to use the techniques for full treatment sessions on each other.   Thern on Monday morning these techniques are fresh in your minds when working with patients. Your patient will identify the change and this is the most rewarding aspect of manual therapy.
I am committed to a serious learning experience  when associated with my name. Once practicing I recommend keeping notes in a journal from your journey which will be used in Series II.
The Series I follow up. This can or should occur in approx. 8 - 12 months when the practitioners have had the opportunity for technique usage. Series II is focused on ensuring optimal technique development has and is occurring from Series I. Series II is a prime opportunity for questions and complaints on assessment and treatment techniques which may not yet be working.  This opportunity relates to the journal you were asked to keep in Series I as we will use your journal as our initial template for technique review.
Then as a continuation of Series I, the next level of manual therapy advanced skills and strength training programming will be taught. Series II will cover the regions of the body that were not covered in series one, as the process is a continuum and extensive.
Series II includes another custom unique skill called Neurofascial Flexibility work.
Series III contains an as needed component, in which all practitioners have the final opportunity to review techniques with me and bring patients in to have them reviewed by our philosophy. A model of organizing a patient to come in for an assessment and treatment over two days. (MORE STRESSFUL FOR ME, BUT FUN)  Series III contains the final level of advanced manual therapy techniques. Then a continuation of what was not covered from a comprehensiveness in Series 1 & 2.
Series III will introduce “Sequence Treatment” which has been specifically designed by me after 25 yrs of developing my manual therapy skills. I have found sequence treatment extremely successful.
Finally we will move into advanced strength training techniques, from cleans and snatches and combination lifts and sequences.
If references for this course are desired, please email me as I would be more than happy to give you contacts of those that have completed this course.
